Welcome to Acupuncture Maidenhead
Like the Thames that flows through our town, traditional Chinese medicine views the body as a system of energy in constant motion. When that flow is smooth, you feel well. When it stagnates or becomes blocked, problems arise — pain, fatigue, anxiety, hormonal imbalance, sleep disturbance. Acupuncture works directly with this flow, restoring the body's natural ability to regulate itself.
Treatment is provided by Dr (TCM) Attilio D'Alberto, a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine with over 25 years of clinical experience. He holds a doctorate from the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and is the author of My Fertility Guide and My Pregnancy Guide.

Acupuncture has been refined over more than two millennia. Modern research has caught up with what practitioners have observed for centuries: it influences the nervous system, regulates inflammation, modulates pain pathways and balances the body's stress response. Unlike many medications, it works with the body rather than against it — and it has an exceptionally good safety record.
What sets traditional Chinese medicine apart is its diagnostic precision. Two patients with the same Western diagnosis — say, anxiety — may receive entirely different treatment because the underlying pattern is different. One may have rising heart fire; another, a deficiency of spleen qi. This is why TCM treatment so often resolves complaints that have proved stubborn elsewhere.
What to expect from your visit
Your first appointment lasts around 60 minutes. Most of it is taken up with a thorough consultation: medical history, current symptoms, lifestyle, sleep, digestion, energy patterns. The TCM diagnosis includes pulse and tongue examination, both of which give detailed information about internal function. Treatment then follows in the same session.
The needles used are extremely fine — about the diameter of a human hair — and most people are surprised by how little sensation there is. A typical session leaves you feeling deeply relaxed, often with an immediate improvement in symptoms. Lasting change usually takes a course of treatments, and your practitioner will discuss expected timelines at your first visit.
